Girls Flag Football Kicks Off at Lighthouse!
Northwest Indiana Lighthouse Charter Schools is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Indianapolis Colts to establish a Girls’ Flag Football team. This exciting development is part of the Colts' broader initiative to expand opportunities for high school girls' flag football across Indiana.
The grant, which is part of a $1 million commitment by the Indianapolis Colts, will provide crucial funding to equip the team with Nike jerseys, football equipment, and coaching resources. Lighthouse’s participation in this initiative reinforces the school’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities for its students.
“We are honored to be part of this incredible movement,” said Jessica Beasley, Executive Director of Northwest Indiana Lighthouse Charter Schools. “This grant will help us launch the team and provide student-athletes with an opportunity to compete and develop valuable skills through the game of football.”
The Colts’ initiative, in partnership with USA Football, aims to grow Girls’ Flag Football as a sanctioned high school sport throughout Indiana. Currently, numerous schools across the state have committed to the program, with more showing interest each season.
Lighthouse is also seeking community partners and sponsors to support the program’s sustainability and long-term success. Sponsorship opportunities include team uniforms, travel expenses, and facility improvements. Businesses and individuals interested in supporting the team can contact Branden Wesby at branden.wesby@nwilcs.org.
The Lighthouse Girls’ Flag Football team will begin practice this upcoming season, with games scheduled against other participating schools in the state. More information about the season, including schedules and community events, will be shared in the coming months.
